At a young age of 14, Tom joined his hometown volunteer fire
department in Brewster, Ohio. He became a fully-qualified firefighter and EMT at 18 and a paramedic at 20. By 23, he was building a career in medical simulation. His clinical practice as a paramedic included service in Union County, North Carolina and Youngstown, Ohio. Eager to develop his instructional
skills, he earned pediatric and adult advanced life support teaching credentials at Cleveland Clinic, the nation’s top-ranked cardiovascular hospital. He began teaching there in 2010.
He was a key member in opening two medical simulation centers: Cleveland Clinic’s Multidisciplinary Simulation Center and Austen BioInnovation Institute in Akron, Ohio.

Today, Tom trains instructors and healthcare providers in classrooms and labs, at international conferences and on cruise ships. He is an accomplished speaker and force multiplier, empowering learners to grow professionally during simulation and motivating educators to create realistic, relevant training that improves quality and patient safety.
